Memorial Day Weekend: Read + Wear

So, here I was thinking that last weekend was the Memorial Day weekend. It was Victoria Day in Canada and often the holidays align. So I spend all weekend wishing people Happy Memorial Day and wondering why there was no response. I also thought the online sales seemed unspectacular.

Finally, I’ve clued in! So, lucky ducks, many of you get a beautiful long weekend to look forward to.

Since my long weekend just ended, I have a few reading suggestions.

The Family Next Door by Sally Hepworth. This is a domestic drama by Australian author Sally Hepworth. It’s about the secrets families keep in picture-perfect suburbia, but is less violent than many similar books such as Big Little Lies or The Last Mrs. Parrish. It’s a perfect weekend read.

The Favorite Sister by Jessica Knoll. I just started the latest from Jessica Knoll whose Luckiest Girl Alive was breathtaking. It’s about the cast of a reality show (yes please!) and the secrets they hold. And – no spoiler here – one of them ends up dead. I’m hoping the book continues as it starts since I’m really enjoying it so far.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. This is a book that everyone told me I needed to read and I’m sure glad they did. The book focuses on the controversial adoption of a Chinese-American baby that divides a wealthy suburb. It’s a beautiful book about mothering and community and it’s no surprise Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington are already making the series.

If you are reading outside, don’t forget your hat.

And wear your suncreen! Beautycounter has terrific new formula sunscreen that is non-toxic and won’t kill our coral reefs. (Available to US clients now. Pre-order available to Canadians starting May 24.)

I plan to spend my (not long) weekend wearing these cheap and cheerful t-shirt dresses from Old Navy. They are $15 and are in lots of colours. So cute!

Are you planning your festivities for the long weekend?
