If I could live anywhere in the world, without limitation, I just might choose Metropolitan Museum of Art (with the Galleria Doria Pamphilj running a close second.) I love a good art museum for the art, obviously, but also for the quiet, the soothing light, and the food (for some reason, museum cafes always have the best soup.)
Since I cannot jut pop into the Met whenever I feel like it, I get The Met Store catalogue. They always have the best ideas for Christmas gifts. These are some of my favourites:
I had a pair of Venus earrings in the late 1980s, which I foolishly gave away. The Mr. bought me a pair when the Met Shop brought them back. They are well-priced classics (Princess Diana had a pair.)
The Met has the prettiest tree ornaments. The 2018 Angel is particularly fetching.
The Met has lovely scarves (I think I’ve bought my mother all of the William Morris pieces over the years) and this silk twill floral Versailles Bouquet square looks like a winner. It reminds me of the Hermès Regina.
Are these coasters not a splendid hostess gift? They are only $28 for the set.
If you like the look of the Hermès enamel bangles, but don’t love this price, they have a splendid selection of pretty alternatives.
The Met always has terrific home accent pieces like this little Ming tray to hold keys and change for under $50.
Are you a fan of museum gift shops? What is your favourite museum to visit?
